IT'S ALL ABOUT THE FOLKING ROCK.

RICEMAGNET was formed in 1999 in Canada and is presently based in Taipei and Hong Kong. Crossing continents, the band's sound has been accordingly influenced by a range of alternative/indie/rock artists, with the resulting sound a blend of Red Hot Chili Peppers meets Wu Bai & China Blue.

RICEMAGNET consists of Yi-Ching Chung on guitar and lead vocals and David Ma on guitar, bass and vocals, both of whom have extensive performing experience.

The band has performed in a number of established indie music venues in both Taipei and Hong Kong, including The UnderWorld, The Living Room and The Riverside in Taipei, and the Fringe Club, The Wanch, The Cavern, Peel Fresco Music Lounge, joyce is not here, MegaBox, TST Gateway and Le Rideau in Hong Kong.

- RICEMAGNET was invited to play at the Fringe Club's City Festival, January 2010.

- RICEMAGNET played its first gigs in Singapore, at the Blu Jaz Cafe, Saturday 4 July 2009, and in Seoul, at Roofers, Itaewon, Thursday 27 August 2009. 

-RICEMAGNET made it into the FINALS of the Hong Kong heats of Global Battle of the Bands when they competed at Club Cixi on Friday 3 October 2008. The videos of "Parting" and "Let You Know" are now on YouTube. See also photos from the finals.

- RICEMAGNET was also invited to be part of the line up of Underground 68 1/2, on Saturday 11 October 2008 at The Melting Pot, Hong Kong. See photos of the gig.

- RICEMAGNET's "These Painful Words" reached the finals of the Yahoo! Music/Baron Music Songwriting Comp and the Parsons Songwriting Comp in August 2008.

- RICEMAGNET was invited to be part of bc Magazine's bc Unplugged at the Wanch on 17 July 2008.  Read the interview featured in bc Magazine, as well as a review of the gig.

- RICEMAGNET headlined a night as part of kubrick's Friday Live series on Friday, 7 March, 2008 and was interviewed for their indie music book project out later this year.

- RICEMAGNET was part of the line-up at December's Tom Lee Music Carnival, at the Piazza outside the Hong Kong Cultural Centre on 16 December and performed at at Pop Bites in Central, HK, with Homei Chau on percussion. Wednesday, 19 December.

- To promote its newly released album "Never Let Go", RICEMAGNET headlined nights at Taipei 's notorious indie venue The UnderWorld on Friday, 19th October and Hong Kong's Fringe Club on Saturday, 3rd November 2007.

- The release of RICEMAGNET's 2007 "Never Let Go" album is a showcase of the band's personal and intimate style; accompanied by emotion driven lyrics, the songs display a quiet but raw strength.
